Critical Cumberland Church Ceiling Repair

Tax deductible
Dear Friends, Family and Neighbors;

When the Congregational Church in Cumberland, Maine was founded in 1793, it was the center of community life. The Church works to help our community whenever it can. But, right now, it needs your help.

The world has changed a lot since our beginning but one thing that hasn't changed, on almost any day, you will still find our church bustling with community activity.  We host and welcome Greely School concerts,  Boy Scout or Girl Scout meetings, child care in one of our two preschools, Lions Club dinners,  'Aging in Place' meetings, senior breakfasts,  community barbecues, Christmas luncheons, Seder dinners, Community potluck dinners--the list goes on and on.

Our Church founded the Cumberland Food Pantry & the Cumberland Woodbank and works alongside the town to support Aging in Place transportation and other social initiatives. The Church hosts an annual walk for Habitat for Humanity, which over the past 33 years has raised more than $600,000. If the need for emergency shelter arises, the church is designated by the town as one of the primary shelter locations. The Church donates all of the offerings it receives at three Christmas Eve services to local service organizations. Our aid does not depend upon whether you belong to the church. We try to help all those in need.

The Church reaches out to help people in the community whenever it can but, right now, we need your support.

We have been unable to occupy our main building since Easter because our more than 100-year-old ceiling is in danger of collapse. Repairs costing $210,000 are underway, and our insurer has informed us that the loss is not covered by our policy. Obviously this expense is far beyond expectations for the normal maintenance of our beautiful, old building.

If you have been touched in some way by our Church, we ask for your help. We have set up this crowdfunding site to take tax deductible donations here . . . Or you can send a check made out to the Cumberland Congregational Church (CCCUCC), 282 Main St, Cumberland ME 04021. Either way, you will receive a tax deductible receipt for your records.

Thank you for your caring. Ours is a wonderful community, and we hope to serve it for many years to come.

Best always,
