<div>Notre paroisse St Michael the Archangel (Saint-Michel-Archange) a été fondée en 1911 mais son histoire remonte à 1899, à l'arrivée à Montréal des premiers immigrants ukrainiens.
</div>

<div>De solide souche paysanne, ils étaient venus au Canada à la recherche d'une meilleure vie. De nombreux d’entre eux ont été embauchés comme ouvriers d'usine, gagnant à peine leur vie. En octobre 1902, la première messe dans leur "rite" est célébrée par un prêtre basilien en visite à Montréal, dans une église des Oblats de la Vierge Marie, située à proximité de la paroisse actuelle. En donnant tout ce qu'ils avaient, ils ont pu construire l'église en 1954, après avoir survécu à la Grande Dépression et après avoir soutenu la patrie de leurs ancêtres pendant la famine créée par l’homme et pendant deux guerres mondiales.

<div>Tout don fait aujourd'hui contribuera à la réparation du bâtiment effrité de l'église. Les pierres situées au sommet des clochers se détachent et doivent être enlevées et remplacées.
</div>

<div>En collectant des “cennes noires” et en s'investissant dans la création de ce symbole, ils ont réussi à réaliser le rêve des pionniers d'unir les générations futures dans un lieu qui serait leur chez-eux et de manifester leur identité commune. Aujourd'hui, compte tenu des nouvelles luttes auxquelles le peuple ukrainien est confronté dans son pays, St Michael's est devenu encore une fois un point de ralliement pour la communauté ukrainienne de Montréal et ses nombreux amis, et deviendra un lieu encore plus essentiel de confort et de réconfort pour les Ukrainiens qui viennent dans notre ville à la recherche d'une meilleure vie dans les mois à venir. Il est plus important que jamais de faire de notre paroisse un refuge sûr et accueillant.

<div>Our parish of St. Michael the Archangel was established in 1911 and its history canbe traced to 1899, to the arrival in Montreal of the first Ukrainian immigrants. From solid peasant roots, they had come to Canada seeking better lives. Many took jobs as factory workers, barely eking out a living. In October of 1902, the first Mass in their Rite was celebrated by a visiting Basilian Priest, in an Oblate-run church in the vicinity of the current parish. Giving all they had, they were able to build the church by 1954, after surviving the Great Depression and supporting their ancestral homeland during the man-made Famine and two World Wars.

<div>Any donation today will help to repair the deteriorating church structure. <div>Help us to preserve what our ancestors built! By collecting and saving their pennies and putting their hard work into creating this symbol they succeeded in fulfilling the pioneers' dream of uniting future generations in this Home and to express their collective identity. Now especially, given the renewed struggles that the Ukrainian people are facing in their homeland, St Michael's has again become a rallying point for the Ukrainian community in Montreal and its many friends, and will become an even more vital place of comfort and assurance for Ukrainians who come to our city seeking a better life in the months to come. It is more important than ever to keep our parish a safe and welcoming home.

<div>Наша парохія була заснована в 1911 році першими українськими іммігрантами, які почали оселятися в Монреалі з 1899 року. Це були селяни, що шукали кращої долі за океаном, працюючи на фабриках і заводах. Вже в 1902 році Василіянські cвященники, перебуваючи проїздом у Монреалі, відправили разом з ними першу Службу Божу в українсько-візантійському обряді в церкві місіонерів Облатів в тій же околиці, де українці пізніше звели власну церкву.
</div>

<div>І в роки інтернування під час Першої світової війни, і під час Великої економічної депресії, і надсилаючи допомогу на заморену штучним голодом і розтерзану Другою світовою війною Україну, вони віддавали останнє на це будівництво, яке завершилося лише у 1954 році.
</div>

<div>Сьогодні ми збираємо пожертви на ремонт церковних дзвіниць, які почали розпадатися.
</div>
