Curtis H.S. Charles Williams H.H. Scholarship

The "Coach" Charles Williams Tribute Committee, consists of Curtis High School (CHS) Alum Derek Alvez 1976, Darryll Arrindell 1979, Michael Bellamy 1979, Colonel Eric Garvin 1977, William J. Givens 3rd 1977, and Kevin Thompson 1977. The committee partnered with Mr. Gregory Jaenicke (CHS Principal), Debi Rose (Former NYC Councilwoman) and Al Curtis (Community Leader) to develop a plan to pay tribute to the legacy of CHS educator and coach Charles Williams. 

A summary of the three elements of the Tribute is as follows:

1. Scholarship: In partnership with Curtis High School, the Committee established the “Charles Williams Heritage House Scholarship.” The plan is to award two annual $1,000 scholarships to Curtis High School students who embody the spirit of Coach’s community service.

2. Legacy Plaque: This plaque provides an executive summary of Coach Williams' many contributions to Curtis High School and the Staten Island Community, as highlighted by his involvement with the Staten Island Heritage House. The Coach Williams Legacy Plaque is prominently displayed at Curtis High School by the center entrance.

3. CHS Athletic Complex: Element three of the tribute is the naming and dedication of the CHS athletic facility as the “Charles Williams Athletic Complex.” Mr. Gregory Jaenicke, Curtis High School Principal, expects to complete the CHS field renovation by June 2022 (weather permitting). The athletic field includes a new scoreboard with "Charles Williams Athletic Complex" signage.

The legacy plaque and scoreboard have received public and private funding. The scholarship fund has received initial private financing of $8,000, but more is needed to sustain the scholarship endowment. The Coach Charles Williams Tribute Committee kindly requests that you donate to support this effort. The goal is to raise sufficient funds so that two scholarships of no less than $1,000 each can be awarded annually to a Curtis High School graduating senior.

UPDATE 7 Oct. 2022 ... The official dedication of the athletic complex in honor of Coach Williams has been established!

UPDATE 28 July 2022 ..... The commemoration ceremony naming the Curtis H.S. athletic complex in honor of Coach Charles Williams will be held on Friday, 7 Oct. 2022! The event is a night game, with the pre-game ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m.

UPDATE 25 July 2022 ..... Forthcoming dedication of the renovated athletic complex!

Plans are underway for the commemoration ceremony of the Curtis High School "Charles Williams Athletic Complex". The event is scheduled to be conducted during a CHS football game in October 2022. Additional information regarding the event will be posted.
