In 2006 I wanted to honor the memory of a great woman who was my doctor and my friend, Dr. Selma Deitch Sigel.
Dr. Deitch instilled in me the core values of helping those in need and to always strive to be a better person. For the past decade, I have worked to buy toys and donate them to the pediatric center she founded called Child Health Services each year for children in need.
Originally I started this as a live show where I'd round up friends in bands to play as well as have raffles with prizes from businesses around NH. All in all the shows would net about $4-500 for toys. As the years went on live shows got a bit harder to make happen but I always kept it going. One year while living in NC I flew to NH with a $400 Christmas bonus in hand and matched it with $400 I had saved up.
When I moved back to New England I tried something new, I just asked friends to help me and they came through amazingly, each year we averaged 4800-$1000. For a few years, I had a clunky sort of approach of using Paypal though last year I moved to GoFundMe and it was a great move.
Last year was the Decade of Donation and thanks to all of you we crushed the $1000 dollar goal with a finish line number of $2000!
So here we are, year 11 and the first time in years I have bumped the bar up a bit to $1,500. I have no doubt that we can crush this goal all over again. As with every year before it's simple, 100% of the money raised (minus the GFM fee which is minimal) goes to buying toys. I have no employees to pay, I take no fee, and there is no middle man.
Cut off is December 6th and the toys will be purchased and delivered on the 13th! Lets do this!
