New mobility scooter

Hey family and friends!  Some of you may not know my history but I have a form of muscular dystrophy called CMT which is an inherited neurological disorder that causes muscle weakness and atrophy, and some loss of sensation in the feet, the lower legs, the hands and the forearms.  I have lived with this since I was a young child and have always stayed active and enjoyed my life to the fullest.  No one can accuse me of being a homebody…unfortunately my condition is progressive and as I have gotten older transportation and mobility have become more difficult.  I used to either drive myself to work or relied on public transportation but unfortunately those are no longer options for me due to my own safety and physical abilities.  For the past several years I have relied on my mobility scooter to travel to and from work and within in the buildings I work in at Elmhurst Hospital.  I take great pride in being able to go to work every day and interacting with my colleagues outside of the office (some aren’t so lucky).  I just can’t see myself being limited in being able to work and be the social butterfly I am…So, I have started this gofund me page because I am in desperate need of a new mobility scooter.  I am lucky to work close to home (about a mile) but still my current one has a lot of miles and is falling apart.  While I have kept it going for as long as I can the parts are very expensive. So any dollar amount would help me to purchase one that will fit me best. Unfortunately my insurance will not cover a mobility scooter for this purpose.
