My name is Christorm Poucette and I am an 18 year old hockey player from the Stoney Nakoda First Nation. I have been playing hockey since I was 11 years old as a defenseman. I live and dream about playing in the NHL.
I am proud to have been scouted by the Canada Cowboys hockey team, located in Canmore, AB, to represent Canada in August of 2019 for a European hockey tour. The players on this team are scouted from across Canada and I was scouted at a tournament in Siksika, AB. I will be excited to represent my country, but I will also be proudly representing my family and my Stoney Nakoda nation.
In July 2017 and July 2018 I was chosen by the Calgary Stampede to ride my horse, dressed as a First Nations warrior in traditional regalia. I rode every day in the grand entry performance before the rodeo in front of thousands of people from around the world. I'm excited that I was invited back for 2019! This is a big honour that I will never forget. I didn't think anything like that would ever happen to me, so the impact it had on me was and still is pretty awesome. Those days helped me grow up as a young man, but also helped me be a positive role model for my family and all First Nations youth inside and outside my community.
During the summer of 2018 I had the opportunity to experience and participate in Canadian Indian Relay as part of the Canadian Relay Racing Association. My team and I represented our Stoney Nakoda Nation and were awarded with “Rookie Team of the Year”. I think when others see how hard you are working it helps me to understand how being positive and doing positive things really does create new opportunities.
If you are able to sponsor me, I would be grateful and I will represent you proudly in every stride I take on and off the ice. My goal is to raise $6500.00. Your sponsorship money will go towards my training camp, flight, accommodations, uniform, ground transportation, food, travel insurance and team photo. This opportunity will help me become a leader as I carry the responsibility as a young First Nations man trying to have a positive impact. As a youth I need to share my knowledge and experience so I can help make a difference with other First Nations youth and the generations of them that follow me.
