Christopher's Accident

Donation protected
My friend Julie’s son Christopher had a tree branch fall on him while camping and has sustained serious injuries.  Please read what Julie wrote below.  These are our friends and they need all of our help desperately with mounting medical bills and Christopher needing 24/7 care.  Also, with him needing full time care, the income into their household will be limited. Please consider giving any amount of money no matter how small to help our friends out in their time of need!  Thank you!!

On September 1st my 17 year old son and I were attending our annual family reunion when a freak accident changed the course of our lives. Around 12:00 pm a large tree branch broke off from the tree my son was camping under and fell on him while he was in his tent. The branch struck him on his head and back causing a skull fracture and two fractured vertebrae. He was transferred to the closest hospital were the skull fracture was first discovered. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, he was being sedated and prepped for transfer to Cabell Huntington Hospital in West Virginia were he could get better care for his head trauma. We arrived at Cabell Huntington and another scan was done. It was at this time we discovered how severe his injuries really were. The fracture on his skull had nicked his arterial artery in his brain and was creating a significant hemorrhage. I was told if he did not undergo surgery within the next 10 to 15 minutes, he would die from the bleeding. He was rushed into emergency surgery and underwent a craniotomy to relieve the pressure and fix the bleed. The days following his surgery were very long and uncertain. My son's will is very strong.  He did wake up and on September 10th my son was able to leave the hospital and come home. Now his long journey to heal begins... He has a fractured T6 and T7 vertebrae and is required to wear a brace for several months. It was the problem solving area of his brain that was injured so, although he can walk and talk, he struggles to navigate space at this time.  Due to the risk of falling, he now may not walk anywhere without supervision. He will have a long road ahead of him as we have two serious injuries to address at the same time. For now, he must keep the body strong while not using his back and rest the mind, which entails limited brain stimulation. With weekly Physical and Occupational Therapy sessions, Doctors appointments and the 24/7 care needed for my son right now, I am unable to work at this time. My boss is very supportive and has assured me that I will have a job to come back to, once I am able. This is a huge stress relief for me but it does not handle the complete loss of household income I have been and will continue to have to face over the next several months. With medical bills and household bills piling up and the road being so long, I have no choice but to reach out to my friends for help.
