Dear Friends and Family,

Jade Elisabeth De Castro was born on January 27th, 2005 and has sadly lost her 10 month fight to cancer on October 9th, 2021.

It all started in late 2020 where Jade noticed two lumps in her right arm. After a couple of doctor visits and a biopsy, it was identified as Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma cancer. Jade’s treatment at Sick Kids Hospital began immediately after diagnosis where Jade would make frequent visits to the hospital for check-ups and new rounds of treatment. This is where Jade began to make her mark. The nurses loved Jade, often stopping by her room to talk about movies, new arts and craft ideas, and most importantly, sharing cat stories and photos! Jade would tell her family time and time again, that the nurses at the hospital made her stay immensely more enjoyable and were quickly beginning to become people that she can proudly call her friends.

Jade was a popular patient at Sick Kids that connected with each and every nurse or doctor that cared for her. She brought positive energy, an infectious laugh and a smile that touched many. Jade will be remembered for her selfless actions and comments that often put everyone else before herself. Since the floor was shared with many other oncology patients like herself, Jade would often ask the nurses about how others were doing, and offer to bring different gifts and toys to some of the younger patients. Nothing made her more happy than putting a smile on someone else’s face.

In remembrance of Jade and the person she was, we would like to open a GoFundMe page to donate funds to the Sick Kids Foundation where they can prepare gifts, meals and other resources to children and their families during this upcoming Christmas Season. We want to recognize the true genuine care of the hospital staff and the countless meaningful connections that were created with Jade during her time there. Additionally, we want to donate a portion of the funds in support of a local animal shelter, to recognize Jade’s passion and love for animals. Lastly, we want to donate a portion of the funds to the St. Mary Catholic Secondary School in Pickering in the form of scholarships, and to donate to the Pickering Soccer Club in the form of new equipment and supplies.

We are looking to donate:
~70% to Sick Kids (Sick Kids Foundation to prepare gifts, meals, arts & crafts supplies, and more for patients and their families)
~20% to Humane Society of Durham Region (Cash donations and food)
~10% to St. Mary's Catholic Secondary School & Pickering Soccer Club (Scholarships, cash donations and equipment)

We know that Jade would want to help other patients overcome and beat cancer, support animals in need, and to give back to St. Mary CSS and the Pickering Soccer Club, making this our first step to support and allow Jade’s wishes and legacy to live on.

Thank you for the love, support and prayers. Jade, our Angel is watching over us! We love you forever and always Jade, until we meet again.

Please follow the Instagram Account @ "always.feline.good" for updates, images and videos of the impact your donations are making.

Let’s together make an impact to put smiles on patients and their families during this upcoming Christmas season!

“Because children should be living their lives, not fighting for it.”
