Memorial for Kobe

Donation protected

We are incredibly grateful to our donors who wanted to share a fabulous Christmas with Kobe. Your generosity and compassion is overwhelming.

Just a day after this campaign was created, Kobe's health started declining. It is with our deepest sorrow that we share this awful news. Kobe's long hard battle has come to end. He was surrounded by his loving family when he surrendered. He fought for months on end and continually kept his spirits high. His fight and determination to get well is to be admired. It speaks to the amazing spirit that he had.

While this had started as a fundraiser to provide Kobe and Brandon with an amazing Christmas, it is now to help aide in all of the expenses that come with saying goodbye to a loved one.  All previously donated funds will be used towards a memorial service. Please continue to contribute as we had never expected to be planning a service for this bright, young boy who had an entire life ahead of him. Again, your generosity is appreciated during this difficult time as we all cope with saying good by to Kobe.

Imagine that you dreamed of a new life for your family.  You had a great job opportunity and you decided to take the leap.  You pack up everything and leave your family and friends behind to start your new life.  It's you and your son for now while the rest your immediate family ties up loose ends back home.  The future looks so bright.  The new job is promising and things fall into place.

This is the start of the story for Kobe and Brandon Borror.  What Brandon couldn't anticipate was that just few short months after leaving everything he knew, his life would be turned upside down.

Kobe seemed to be exhausted all of the time.  He had no energy and the little man we all knew and loved seemed to be lost in a routine of endless naps.  Brandon knew something was wrong.  He brought him to Children's Hospital where he has been since May of 2018.

Shortly after being admitted Kobe went through an array of painful testing.  It was the spinal tap that confirmed doctor's initial thoughts and his Dad's worst fear.  Kobe had been diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.   He was put on a variety of medications and a vigorous chemotherapy plan.  The hospital staff seemed positive and the family rallied with support.  The outlook was hopeful and we all knew that Kobe's tough warrior spirit would get him through this.  We had all anticipated that he would get better in no time.

It's been a long road since those initial days and nothing has come easy for Kobe.  He reacted poorly to chemo and it virtually wiped out his immune system.  Since May, Kobe has had the following issues: pancreatitis, a sinus infection on the brain, an enlarged spleen, pneumonia, liver and heart issues, a tumor on his bones, liquid in his lungs, and the list goes on and on.  For weeks he was in a medically induced coma as family and friends visited his bedside and prayed day in and day out.  Holidays and birthdays have come and gone and Kobe remains in the hospital.

We are all at a loss.  The doctors have tried so many different treatments and it seems that each one brings upon a new side effect that causes them to change course.  They are unable to find a consistent treatment option to fight this cancer.  Kobe continues to fight though.  We all do.

Brandon moved to Oklahoma with great hopes of a new life for him and his family.  He has been a rock to Kobe, and has stood strong and fearless even when it seemed the world was caving in.  He has been relentless in his pursuit to find a treatment to help Kobe and has carried the weight of this diagnosis on his shoulders alone.

It is my hope that you read this story and think of Brandon and Kobe.   As you put together your holiday shopping list, please think of this Dad who each day that he goes to work, he leaves his child in the hospital.  That is an incredible burden to bear.  Please consider making a donation this holiday season.  Brandon would love to shower Kobe with gifts to entertain him during his long endless days in the hospital.  Brandon deserves to be taken care of, too.  He has remained vigilantly at Kobe's bedside every chance he gets - working all day and spending all night at the hospital.  He would be grateful to buy himself a decent meal instead of hitting up the drive through on the way home from the hospital each night.  He would appreciate a little financial help so he doesn't feel the pain of turning down overtime opportunities for the chance to have a few more hours each night with his son.  He would love to see his daughters that are still waiting to join him in Oklahoma.

Please take a moment and donate anything that you can.  Brandon and Kobe have been through so much this past year, please show them your love and support.  Ensure them that we are rooting them on as they fight this uphill battle.  Even a dollar makes a difference.
