My husband, Dominick, was diagnosed with an extremely rare head and neck cancer: myoepithelial carcinoma / salivary gland. My continued Christmas wish is to obtain funding for treatment at Integrative Cancer Centers of America (ICCA) in Mexico. 45K is the flat fee for the full treatment to get him into remission (we are able to afford the separate cost of airfare, lodging, and food during our 3+ week stay).
Dominick is 46 years old and has always embraced a health oriented lifestyle – wholesome foods and a passionate love of fitness. His health crisis began last summer (2016) with a noticeable neck swelling which led us to seek out our numerous top hospitals in Chicago. To summarize, they all collectively indicated they didn’t know what the growth was after ultrasound, CT, MRI, and a needle biopsy. They also all recommended an extremely invasive surgery (removing his carotid artery, vagus nerve, jugular, etc) that would have ultimately negatively impacted his quality of life and longevity so we decided to hold off and monitor. Dominick was actually doing well until his health and weight quickly deteriorated (he is currently 130 lbs) this summer (2017) after a ketogenic diet landed him in the hospital with a severe kidney infection and a new much larger mass emerged immediately afterwards. We sought out Cleveland Clinic where we finally received an accurate diagnosis after a new CT, FNA, open biopsy, and PET scan. Although the oncology team at Cleveland Clinic indicated that this rare cancer hasn’t been shown to respond to radiation or chemotherapy we did move forward with proton treatment at the Northwestern Warrenville clinic. Dominick is halfway through the 7 week treatment, but there hasn’t been much reduction in the tumor size and the treatment won’t put him into remission.
We were personally referred by a close family friend to ICCA and are extremely optimistic about their treatment protocol. Their US board certified tumor board has reviewed Dominick’s case and confirmed they can get him into remission. We'd like to get him scheduled asap.
