More information about Sanctuary House: The mission of Sanctuary House is to facilitate the recovery and rehabilitation of adults with serious mental illness in Guilford County so they may achieve and sustain satisfying, meaningful roles and lives in our community.
As many of you know, my sister suffered from a serious mental illness, and came to live with me when I was doing my residency training in Internal Medicine. She suffered from schizoaffective bipolar disorder and received compassionate and superior care at the Sanctuary House. If not for Sanctuary House, I could not have continued my medical training, due to the severity of her illness. Although not in a position to help them then, I made myself a promise that when I
was in a position to do so, I would become an advocate for mental health services, and support the mission of Sanctuary House.
Last year, with your help, we raised over $20,000! This year, I am aiming the highest ever, with a goal of $50,000 to put towards an endowment. An endowment will ensure financial support for Sanctuary House for years to come!
If 500 of my friends donate $100 to Sanctuary House, this goal will be easily obtainable, and I have 3 times that many Facebook friends, many of whom whose lives have been personally impacted by mental health issues in a family or friend.
Rolling Stone just published their list of the top 500 albums, so I will need a $100 sponsor for each album. I will run 4 miles for every $100 sponsor and listen to that album during my run. Last night, I started with album #1 on the list, Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On". It was a lovely, jazzy masterpiece that speaks to issues of social justice, police brutality, the environment, with spiritual themes throughout. Can I get someone to kick off my campaign by sponsoring that run with a $100 donation?
