Christina Bargielowski Medical and Support

On April 5, 2021, Christina went in for her first routine mammogram when a lump was discovered in her right breast and one in her lymph node. A biopsy was scheduled for April 15th, and on April 19th Christina received the results which confirmed her fears that she has breast cancer. The diagnosis is Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Christina is HER2-positive (and progesterone and estrogen negative),  which means her cancer is more aggressive so her treatment plan will focus first on Chemotherapy and HER2 Antibody therapy.

Given the aggressive nature of the cancer, treatment will begin right away as will the associated medical and prescription expenses. 

Christina works for a Chicago Charter High School as a Special Education Paraprofessional and has a bank of sick time that she can leverage for treatment as needed. Her benefit plan also allows for peers to donate time to those in need, and Christina has already been the fortunate recipient of some donated days from peers.  The time Bill, Christina's husband, takes away from work to accompany and care for Christina however is unpaid.
