I have decided to turn professional in golf. This may surprise some who don't know my full story, but I have worked very hard these last few years, further developing my skills and progressing to the point where I am confident I can currently compete against players at the professional level. Just in the last two years, I have gone from a handicap that fluctuated between 0 and +2 (the + in front of the handicap number means under par, once you pass the 0 handicap threshold) with a scoring average of 74, to a handicap that is now consistently between a +3 and +4, with a tournament scoring average under 71. I have compiled many top 10’s, top 5’s, and a couple victories just in the last year. While this improvement has been promising, I have very high aspirations and will continue to push each and every day to attain my goal of succeeding at the professional level.
In order for me to begin pursuing this next step of turning professional, and give myself the greatest opportunity to excel as I move forward, I will need the means to travel and enter many of the professional tournaments in which I plan to compete. The reality is that the expenses I will incur as a result of travel and tournament participation are high. I know my first year as a professional will be crucial as I look to gain status on a professional tour. Achieving this status will enable me to consistently play every week, providing me a platform to demonstrate my ability. In order to give myself the greatest chance to establish this required status as soon as possible, I plan on travelling worldwide, entering multiple qualifying schools and tournaments. I am currently approaching different sponsors/donors, and if you or someone you know would be interested in helping me achieve my goals and dreams, I would be forever grateful. Every little bit will help as I embark on my professional career. I hope this can be a mutually beneficial endeavor for those who can and are willing to lend their support.
I have always been a person with a very narrow focus, with one goal fixed and burning in my mind, driving my daily actions. I know I have a tremendous passion for working to improve, which is why I am confident in my pursuit. My excitement and dedication to this sport will be there to carry me through the ups and downs of the professional golf circuit.
For every Jordan Spieth on tour, who was playing PGA Tour events at sixteen, there are ten guys who spend many, many years grinding away on smaller tours working to reach the next levels before they finally make it to the PGA Tour. Y.E. Yang, famous for beating Tiger Woods in the 2009 PGA Championship, did not even begin playing golf until nineteen. He turned pro at 24 but it took him another ten years before having much success. Ken Duke turned pro at 25 and also took ten years to realize some success. Larry Nelson never even started golfing until he was 21 and went on to win two majors and 41 times. There are many examples, but my point is that it is still possible to succeed even if I have begun my career later than others.
I have come up with a preliminary schedule and projected costs of professional tournaments I plan to enter next year. My goal is to gain status on a tour where I have tournaments to play every week, giving me the opportunity to further develop my game and to earn money. The success I’ve had these past two years only fuels my belief that my dream can become a reality.
Thank you so much for your consideration of my request for help in realizing my dream. I have an extremely high confidence in my abilities and the tenacity to continue my dedication and hard work in order to succeed at the professional level. Every little bit of help is needed and greatly appreciated, so if you or someone you know might be interested in assisting please let me know. If you would like to make a donation, I have set up this Go Fund Me account. You can also contact me if you would like to donate in a private manner.
I am very excited to take this next step in my life and golfing career and I thank you again for your consideration.
