My name is Melanie and I am a pastor's wife and mama of 7 boys. One of my dear friends and sister in Christ and her husband and 9 children suffered a disaster shortly after we all met up in Kentucky in April to see the Ark Encounter together. Karla had just given birth to her 9th baby weeks before our trip. Upon their return to their family home in Alabama that was lovingly built on a small homestead an air quality test Karla ordered found their home to be infested with extremely high levels of toxic mold. Karla and her children have spent weeks moving from condo to condo trying to stay out of the mold for the kids' sake but finally had to return. The home is now gutted where the mold was found and all furniture and belongings that cannot be remediated have been thrown out and they are now sleeping on air mattresses and using folding chairs and tables. To make matters worse, the children have been constantly sick because the mold has destroyed their immune systems and her husband is trying to get the work done bit by bit while running his own autoparts yard. Insurance is trying to get away with giving nothing and in the meantime my friend and her children are at their wits' end. Please help, I am hoping this will give them enough to buy some new mattresses for all 11, a sectional couch big enough for their family, some new bedding, and some of the toys that had to be discarded like their costume bin of dress up clothes.
