Christian Community Action

Tax deductible
Since its inception in 1967, Christian Community Action’s (CCA) standard of practice has been to support families during a crisis and when possible, offer support as they took steps toward self-sufficiency, permanent housing and family stability.

This approach was incorporated into our Stepping Stone Transitional Housing Program, which we established in 1998 after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded funding.

A 24-month long program, Stepping Stone afforded heads of household the opportunity to outline and achieve goals, receive encouragement, take steps towards increasing their income by enhancing their skills, secure employment and improve their quality of life.

More than 80% of the heads of household served were able to find permanent housing and stable employment by setting goals, participating in workshops on a variety of topics and nurturing their children during their residence at Stepping Stone. The State of Connecticut and HUD provided vital funding to Stepping Stone throughout its 20 years of continuous operation to ensure family and programmatic success.

Unfortunately, Stepping Stone closed its doors in 2018 due to a change in HUD's and the State of CT's funding priorities.  Diversion, short-term engagement and rapid exit from emergency housing replaced progressively assisting heads of household in establishing and achieving their goals of stability.

Although, this change left CCA with an empty building and no program or operational funding, it still has a strong resolve to continue offering families the support to achieve a better future after their experiences with homelessness.

Today, CCA has a Window of Opportunity to protect families against the harshest element and a transparent boundary between a home and the cold streets. You can open it, literally, by donating to CCA to facilitate the repair or installation of 192 windows for the Stepping Stone Building located at 660 Winchester Avenue, New Haven, CT.

With financial support, Christian Community Action can assist heads of household find employment, enroll in school, address medical and mental health issues, provide nurturing care for their children, and once again promote hope for the future.
