As Christian continues to heal, I have been asked to reach out to our community for assistance getting him the things that he will need to move forward. Prayers are coveted and financial assistance is greatly needed. Thank you for your consideration.
My 19 year old nephew is in need of medical help and handicapped accessibility to his home. Christian Chastain was attacked by a violent perpetrators while visiting a local park with friends. https://okcfox.com/news/local/teen-in-critical-condition-after-stabbing-at-chickasha-park-suspect-in-custody The man who attacked Christian has been accused of rape by instrumentation of young girl who is a friend. Christian shouted at the man to never touch her again or there would be consequences. This exchange resulted in the man attacking Christian and violently stabbing him six times. As his friends applied pressure to the wounds, a young family picnicking in the park, called 911. The ambulance arrived and rushed Christian to the local hospital. He was then air lifted to OU Medical Center's trauma unit where he underwent a very lengthy surgery to save his life. He required 14 units of blood and 14 units of plasma in addition to platelets during his first surgery. He was admitted to the Trauma ICU where he spent the next week having additional surgeries in order to stabilize him. On March 2nd, he was moved to a room where his mom was able to see him for the first time. It was determined that his left leg was not going to heal and an amputation would have to be performed. On Thursday, March 4th, Christian had the surgery to remove his leg. It has been a difficult few days but every day gets a little bit better. His mom continues to assist him at the hospital and due to COVID constraints, she has not been allowed to leave for any reason. Today, March 8th, another surgery will be performed to remove the wound vac, to check on the progress of the nerves and veins and hopefully cover the wound with skin. Now the healing and recovery truly begins. Christian's family spent the week-end preparing his mom's home to be wheelchair assessable. They built a very nice ramp to assist him getting into the house. Materials for the cost of the ramp were over $1000.
As you can imagine, there will be many medical expenses ahead of this young man. He hopes to receive a prosthetic at some point in the future. He will have to have rehabilitation to learn how to do things differently. He may need counseling to help him to adjust to his new normal. Working will not be possible for him for awhile. Christian and his mom are going to need financial help in order cover these unexpected expenses. Loving, caring people have helped provide food items, and other necessities to them as they continue the hospital stay. Doctors are hoping that Christian might be released from the hospital early next week. He is ready to go home and after three weeks in the hospital is anxious to get back to living his life. With many prayers and help from others this is truly possible.
