"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7-8
In 2016, Christi Schovanec's fight with acute myeloid leukemia began. AML is not kind— it is nasty, mean and evil. Throughout the almost 5 years, our family traveled daily and weekly to Enid and Oklahoma City for transfusions, therapy, doctor visits, and hospital stays. For 5 months, MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, became our home away from home. Our mom experienced the best doctors, the best nurses and most importantly the best people. Our family and our mom could NOT have endured the past five years without the blessing of people who prayed, wrapped us in loved, delivered food, fundraised, donated and supported us. Our inspiration for the memorial fund came from a blessing God placed in our lives.
Before heading to MD Anderson, we had four days to find a place to live in Houston. We had no idea the length of time we would be staying or what Houston would entail. Somehow, by the grace of God, we found a family who owned a condo. The catch? It was free of charge as long our mom needed to. It was a God thing. Throughout our mom's fight with AML, God put blessings like this along the way—too many to count. She fought the good fight, she finished the race, and she ALWAYS kept the faith. She was never defeated, because she won the ultimate victory of eternal life with Jesus. Our mom is our hero, always was, and forever will be.
The Christi Schovanec Memorial Fund's purpose is to bless another family who is experiencing a similar journey by helping with travel, food, housing, treatments or other needs. Our mom would want another family to experience a blessing like she received countless times.
"Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. " Matthew 7:7
