Chris Nigro's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
Hello Everyone,

My name is Cindy and I am creating a GoFundMe account to help my dad, Chris Nigro, with the costs associated with his new and critical cancer treatment.

In May of 2018 Chris was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma. As many others know from experience, hearing that a close family member has cancer was devastating. The strong, self-employed, can-fix-everything dad, suddenly had this life-threatening diagnosis.

In the summer and fall of 2018 Chris went through his first rounds of chemotherapy. The resulting scans showed that although the tumor in his abdomen had shrunk, it was still present along with some other areas of cancerous activity. Early this year he went through different rounds of chemotherapy- the results were essentially the same. This was when we learned that the nature of his cancer is chemo-resistant.

The doctors then referred Chris to the Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte, NC for CAR T-cell therapy. His T-cells have been collected from his white blood cells and have been engineered so that they can hopefully kill the cancer cells when infused back into him. The infusion is set for MAY 6TH, 2019. This procedure has promising statistics of success but also has very serious side effects such as Cytokine Release Syndrome and neurological problems. For these reasons he and a few other family members have had to temporarily relocate to the Charlotte/Rock Hill area.

My dad has already had to cut back on work and he will not be able to work during the treatment and recovery process (which could take several months). With a substantial loss in income, mounting medical and travel expenses my dad will be in a financial crisis. I hope that donations to this GoFundMe account will alleviate this stress.

My goal is to raise $15,000- ANY HELP IS SO VERY APPRECIATED!

This past year has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows for me and my family. Last year I was proposed to by my long-time boyfriend and two days later I found out my dad has cancer. This past month I even rescheduled my wedding date to make sure that my dad could walk me down the aisle and enjoy our celebration before he begins his new cancer treatment. I’m still on this emotional rollercoaster - I pray that this treatment will be successful with minimal side effects.

Anyone who doesn’t know us personally should know that the Nigro’s are a pretty close family and we all love Clemson sports. My dad has been the driving force for our family’s love of sports and camaraderie. My family and I would love to have him back home and healthy as soon as possible- we want to enjoy more family time and football seasons together!
