My name is Chris Diaz and I am running for the West Orange Board Education! I'm an Attorney who has been practicing nearly 2 decades. I'm a dad, husband and active member of this community and I know that it is time to focus on BRINGING CHANGE to West Orange. Together with your help, I know we can be victorious.
IT'S TIME TO FOCUS ON:
1. MORALE: The Teachers' Contract may be resolved but that has not changed the fact that teachers feel demoralized and parents are dismissed by a top down management style. It's time to remind the administration that they work for the citizens of West Orange.
2. DIVERSITY: Not only should our staff and administration reflect the diversity of our amazing town by employing the best and brightest that the education field has to offer, but we must also embrace a diversity of ideas and viewpoints. We must cease the practice of body shaming young girls, we must be welcoming to students of all orientations, origins and academic abilities and help them achieve the promise of a superior education.
3. ELIMINATING WASTE: The West Orange tax payers have been asked to shoulder the burden of one wasteful decision after another. Many of those choices originate with the administration. It's time to pull back the curtain and expose how those practices are impacting our bottom line and eliminate them.
4. REFORM: We have much to be proud of in West Orange but there is a real need for reform as well. From our HIB policy, to our Honors Program, to testing and how it is administered, to several other policies that impact our Special Education, General Education and Gifted & Talented Students, WE CAN DO BETTER.
