Chris Page Lymphoma Fund

Donation protected
In October of 2017, Chris was hospitalized with severe symptoms.  After a lot of tests and scans, unfortunately, his diagnosis was Lymphoma.  Diffuse large B cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma to be exact.  His abdominal area was greatly affected including his liver and spleen area.  Having a hard time getting his liver to recover, the Oncologist in Eugene sent him to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.  They started chemotherapy to get his liver stronger.  He returned to Eugene to continue his chemotherapy treatments.  The doctors' orders were "no work" throughout this process.  Being a family that values each and every paycheck, Chris applied to receive social security disability benefits in November, 2017  with the doctor’s directive not to work.  Being told that the social security process would take 60-90 days, Chris cashed out his retirement account to provide for his family through his treatments.  Chris completed a full  R-CHOP routine of chemotherapy ending 4 Months later, in March 2018.  Although Chris and his family were ready to move on and get back to a regular life, the scans and biopsies showed that some cancer remained.  The cancer around his spleen and liver was gone, however, some remained in the iliac lymph nodes in his groin.  Back to treatments.  The doctors at OHSU as well as Eugene decided he would be a good candidate for a stem cell transplant to eradicate the cancer as it still wasn’t gone after his full chemotherapy process.  This intense process will occur at the OHSU hospital in Portland.  Currently, Chris is undergoing more chemo this summer to get his body ready for the stem cell transplant.

As Chris and his family get ready for the next chapter of his fight, we are gathering support to ease their financial burden.  His retirement funds are near an end and unfortunately, Chris will be out of work as he goes through and recovers from the stem cell transplant.  Chris has continued to add doctors notes to his social security disability application.  As of this week, when he checked in again, he was told that it was at the state level for review, still 60-90 days from receiving any information.  The social workers gave him attorneys to notify if he does not get a response soon.  Teresa has a letter ready to email to our state representative.  Anything to get the ball rolling faster.

Below is the timeline of events for the stem cell process:

Middle-End of August – lots of tests up at OHSU  - a night or two stay

Caregiver class OHSU – a night stay

Stem cell collection OHSU– 3-4 nights stay

Admitted to OHSU for Chemotherapy and transplant – 2-4 weeks stay in the hospital

Discharge from OHSU, daily doctor visits – 2-4 weeks stay near the hospital.

Discharged to return to Eugene – recover with caregiver support.

The doctors said that during the hospital stay/he will have limited visitors and no children allowed because Chris will have zero immune system until it gets built back up by reintroducing his own blood cells.

Also when he is let out of the hospital he will have to get all of his meals prepared in home to reduce the risk of any outside viruses while his immune system builds back up.

Chris is working on keeping his body strong.  Teresa is working to support Chris, Cobie, and Bailey.  Us family and friends are doing what we can to support all of them.  The funds that are gathered will be used for the following:

Lodging near the hospital: $4,000

Food for Chris while being lodged:  $1,000

Daycare for Cobie and Bailey while Teresa goes back and forth: $1,700

Gas for travel: about $500

Any extra funds will go to support the family while Teresa takes unpaid time off to care for Chris upon his return home from OHSU.  Most of her paid medical leave was used last year for Chris’ hospitalization, treatments, and some important doctors appointments she insisted upon supporting Chris through.

Chris and Teresa have made it clear that they do not want to take from hard working folks like us, however, we have assured them that if we all give a little, a lot of great can happen.
