Chris' Open Heart Surgery

Donation protected
Hello! My amazing boyfriend of 7 years and all around wonderful human, Chris Khoshaba, has to have open heart surgery for an Atrial Septal Defect on December 28th. The surgery has very, very low risk to him in itself, but will put him out of work and in recovery for two months. He is feeling apprehensive about this, but ready to put it behind him and live with a healthy heart! Currently, the right side of his heart is twice the size of the left, and causing him physical discomfort, fluttering feelings and arhythmea. This does not cause him any immediate risk, but would cause heart failure in about 10 years if not addressed.

For more information on ASD, read attached! https://cardiac.surgery.ucsf.edu/conditions--procedures/atrial-septal-defect.aspx

Chris and his family are the most caring people, and are heavily burdened by the medical bills involved in this process. He was officially diagnosed in August, and has undergone numerous procedures to figure out the best way to address it. This starting number ($1,500) in itself will begin to cover the numerous tests (two TEEs, two cardiac MRIs, one cardiac echo, and 6 appointments with specialists) to get us to the actual surgery. We are so fortunate that Chris is still on his mom's insurance, but we know the cost of the surgery will be very high, and Chris will not be able to contribute at all until after his recovery. When the exact out of pocket cost is determined by his mom's insurance, I will notify this page. Chris and his family are not the type of people to ask for help, and are so grateful that anyone may consider it.

Chris will be in the hospital for about a week after surgery due to the risk of infection, and will be on almost exclusive bed rest for about 6 weeks. Chris will have very limited energy for about 3 months, the doctor described it as "always being out of breath".
Normally, this medical issue is caught in children but it was never detected in Chris. Because the surgery is most common in children, Chris will have the surgery at Lurie Children's Hospital. We are very grateful for the skilled surgeons there.

I am hoping to ease any burden on Elisa (Chris' wonderful mom) and their family through the creation of this GoFundMe. Any amount helps, I hope this can be a way for Chris' loved ones to show support however they can.

If you would like any additional documentation on the surgery, information on Chris' doctors, or specifics about the ASD itself please reach out (I just don't want this to be super easily accessible).

Chris will be very out of it after surgery, and in the ICU for a few days. If you would like to check on him, feel free to send me a text (reach out via Facebook if you don't have my information) and I will update you. I will also post on this page once his surgery is complete and he is in recovery.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, we love and appreciate you all.

I will be requesting a check directly to myself, then writing a check to Chris to disburse the funds. Let me know if you have any questions about this!
