The symptoms began in 2012 with tingling that ran from his mid-back and down his left arm to his hands. While seeing a neurologist they performed an Electromyogram test and the results were negative. Later on that year more numbness and pain started in his neck and back. More tests were ran, including an EMG and an MRI of his spine. Both came back negative for any neurological issues. These symptoms continued with new ones emerging in Fall of 2014. Numbness and pain crept upwards from his right foot, into his thigh and his lower back. Shortly after that the left foot began to have the same numbness and pain creeping upwards. Physical therapy, working out, stretching and even pain medication had little to no effect. More tests were ordered, which all came back negative.
It wasn't until January of 2016 when his hand & arm went completely numb, when doctors started piecing things together. He went and spent a week hospital undergoing dozens & dozens of tests, MRI scans, and a spinal tap. The chief neurologist at Beaumont and her team had determined by the end of the week that he undiagnosed autoimmune disease that could be Multiple sclerosis (MS) or Neuromyelitis optica (NMO).
Chris is now being treated symptomatically, taking numerous medications (up to 10-12 pills per day) to help manage his symptoms. He cannot currently be diagnosed with either of the diseases because they have not been able to catch him in a relapse, which is when the disease presents itself and new symptoms occur. Until then he must continue taking medications, which merely dull his symptoms they don’t fix or take it away.
He currently has 2 neurologists (Cleveland Clinic & M.I.N.D clinic) and must undergo multiple MRI scans and blood work every couple of months to see if anything shows up. There is currently no cure for him, as it is still unknown which auto-immune disease he has.
With debt continuing to mount up due to all of the tests, hospital stays and doctors’ visits Chris has taken up a 2nd job to help manage the needs of his family, all the while fighting these painful symptoms. With Chris always away at work most of the time his wife Kristi has been faced with taking care of their 3 kids alone and has taken on watching her nephew during the week for added income. With collection companies calling daily and a lifetime of medical bills ahead of them this family needs our help to pull ahead and renew their spirits as a family.
We are asking for your help to assist Chris and his family with any donation possible. With our love and generosity they can get their medical bills under control and spend their time together as a family.
