Choti's Snake Conservation Trip!

Donation protected
I have always been an animal lover; all types of animals! Many of you already know about my love of frogs. Yes, also snakes...a very early passion and curiosity fueled by growing up in Zambia.

With my early experience in handling snakes safely and educating humans so as to minimize negative encounters with snakes, later academic studies in Zoology and Animal Behaviour, plus veterinary tech work for several years with exotic species, I have the dedication, knowledge and experience to be an asset in snake conservation and education at a grassroots level.

Established in 2017, Save The Snakes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to snake conservation and human-snake conflict mitigation. Save
The Snakes, protects threatened snake populations through habitat preservation, education and community outreach to create a harmonious relationship between humans and snakes. I volunteer and am on the Board of Directors with this young non-profit.

To accomplish our mission, we educate communities on the importance of snakes in ecosystems, how to coexist without conflict and how to treat snakebite situations should they occur. We also protect snake habitat, conduct research that supports snake conservation efforts, and train local citizens to become “para-ecologists”, that manage human-snake conflicts and assist in snake conservation efforts. We establish trust with rural communities, provide solutions that decrease human-snake conflicts and utilize indigenous local knowledge of wildlife and their ecosystems. While our in-situ conservation efforts are currently focused in Southeast Asia, we work globally to promote our mission.

In October 2018, Save The Snakes embarks on a multi-country snake conservation expedition. Our team will give educational presentations, solve human-snake conflict issues and survey for threatened snake species through various regions of India and Nepal. As one who was born and spent my early childhood in India (plus the many subsequent trips to visit family!) I will be an asset to the team with my knowledge of the local languages and culture.

I would like to raise funds to assist with my personal travel costs to India/Nepal, and back.
Air ticket = $1000+ (from Colorado to India, return trip)
Domestic travel in India = $300
Food (vegetarian) + Lodging = minimal, and covered by me (when I cannot stay with friends or family).
Education materials + snake relocation supplies = covered under grants and donations to Save The Snakes.

I cannot offer 'rewards' for your contributions, however I can assure you there will be fabulous photographs, of snakes, other flauna and flora, and of course the rural communities we will work with! And there will be my sincere gratitude, for enabling my participation in an incredible opportunity to do what I can to minimize the villification and unnecessary deaths of valuable living creatures.
All life forms have a right to exist, and a purpose that is not always known to humans.

Thank you for reading to the end! No contribution is too small :)
