Volunteer Trip to Peru (August 2014)

Donation protected
Hello friends and family,

Most of you are aware of my previous achievements and future aspirations, but I'll start with a quick summary about myself. Having graduated with a BS in Biopsychology from UCSB, I continued on to become a certified Emergency Medical Technician. My next step is to earn the 1500-3000 required hands-on patient-care hours necessary to apply to Physician Assistant (PA) school. As you may understand, finding a job in healthcare to complete these hours is not an easy task.

Through online courses, I have been working to improve my knowledge of medical terminology and my ability to verbally communicate, read, and write in Spanish. For the last 6 months, I have been endlessly researching volunteer programs where I can fully emerse myself in a Spanish-speaking culture while simultaneously helping those in need with the patient-care skills I have developed over time.

Global Crossroad is a volunteer organization successfully operating since 2003. Through GC, care is given to low-income families who either do not have access to healthcare, or are located where clinics/hospitals are under-funded and under-staffed. I will be working closely with the local doctors, nurses, and other volunteers, performing tasks that include taking vital signs, doing full patient assessments, prepping and sterilizing materials, and assisting the local staff with anything else they may need.

I will be LEAVING AUGUST 2014 to volunteer in Cusco, Peru for the length of 4-6 weeks. Global Crossroad places me with a host family that provides 3 meals a day throughout the length of the program. Financially, I will need to pay for flights, local transportation, the host family/meals, traveller's insurance, spanish classes, vaccinations/medicines, and any other necessary items I will need prior to my trip as well as throughout my stay in Peru.

The total estimated cost of my trip will be around $2,800. I am more than happy to answer any questions or concerns regarding my trip. Please feel free to visit the Global Crossroad website and check the program out for yourself.  http://www.globalcrossroad.com/

As you can see, I am leaving for Peru in just 1 month! ANY and All donations will be a huge help and are greatly appreciated!! I am absolutely thrilled to be presented with this healthcare opportunity and to learn more about Peruvian Culture. Thank you so much for your consideration and support.
