Hello! Hope you are all doing well.
I am currently a first year student at the University of Florida where I am studying International Studies and Health Sciences. Upon entering college, I made a long-term goal that I would graduate knowing how to speak and understand different languages. This skill would no doubt allow me to be more marketable among future career opportunities and will also give me the opportunity to learn about various cultures, think differently, and ultimately humble myself as I start from the basics of another language.
I have taken courses in Spanish from 8th to 10th grade and decided to refresh myself in college by taking an Accelerated Spanish in my Fall Semester of college and Intermediate Spanish 1 in my Spring Semester. As this will be my last semester taking Spanish before I start taking more courses geared toward my major, I have been encouraged by past and current Spanish teachers to attend the University of Florida in Dominican Republic Study Abroad Program to "lock-in" the Spanish language.
During this 6 week study abroad program in the Dominican Republic, I will be taking an accelerated Intermediate Spanish course as well as volunteering where I will be performing literacy work and recreation with children and youth in the area. As I am extremely passionate about service, especially on a global scale, this will be an amazing experience to work with individuals from a culture so different from my own and hopefully make an impact on this community.
The program is about $4,500 and I am currently raising money to attend. I am asking for your help towards this fundraiser and this experience of not only improving my knowledge of a language but also volunteering for an amazing cause while gaining a global perspective.

¡Hola! Espero que todos estén bien.
Soy una estudiante en la Universidad de Florida y estoy estudiando Estudios Internacionales y Ciencias de la Salud. Cuando yo empecé el colegio me propuse una meta: hablar y comprender diferentes lenguas cuando me graduara. Esta habilidad me ayudará con oportunidades de trabajo en el futuro y me dará la oportunidad de aprender varias culturas, pensar de forma diferente, y en definitiva ser humilde al aprender una nueva lengua.
He tomado cursos de español de octavo a décimo grado y decidà refrescarlo en la universidad tomando Español Acelerado en mi semestre de otoño y Español Intermedio en mi semestre de primavera. Como este es mi último semestre tomando español antes de empezar mi especialidad me he animado a ir con mis profesores de Español a través del Programa de Estudios en el Extranjero de la Universidad de La Florida para la República Dominicana.
Durante este programa de seis semanas en la Republica Dominicana voy a tomar un curso de Español Acelerado Intermedio y también voy a ser voluntaria de alfabetización y entretenimiento con niños de ese paÃs. Tengo mucha voluntad de servicio, especialmente a nivel mundial, y esta será una experiencia increÃble al trabajar con personas de una cultura diferente de la mÃa y poder ayudar a realizar un cambio en esa comunidad.
Este programa cuesta aproximadamente $4.500 y estoy recaudando dinero para participar en el viaje. Pido tu ayuda para recaudar fondos y tener la experiencia no solamente de mejorar mi conocimiento de una lengua sino también de ser voluntaria para una increÃble causa y tener una mejor perspectiva del mundo.
