Chizh For Cheii 2018

Donation protected
In effort to care for our elders during the winter season on the Navajo Nation and surrounding area "Chizh for Cheii" was created. We view our elders as the backbone to our beautiful culture and heritage. "Chizh for Cheii" which means "wood for grandpa" in Navajo, has provided over 572 loads of free firewood for the past four years. Many people on the Navajo reservation live with no running water and electricity, majority of these individuals are our elders. The past four years, I would taka adults and youth to various mountain locations such as the Chuska Mountains and the Zuni Mountains. They would reconnect with nature, help conservation of the land, reduce forest fire fuels, provide a service to their community and of course get a good day(s) of hard work. In return, individuals who help would witness the appreciation of our loved grandmas and grandpas of Navajoland as they are relieved that they will be warm during the winter.

What’s new this season to this effort is offering a positive resource for those in addiction recovery and sobriety. Helping our people that are discharged from detox, now have an option to join our wood hauling effort in hopes to continue their sobriety. Working with our local detox to help reduce the intakes. By joining the wood hauling effort straight out of detox gives our individuals a chance to regroup and refocus. Individuals have another option to join another program I have launched called Sheep Camp, it’s a transitional housing for those seeking to stay sober and get paid as a ranch hand, keep in mind this is all self funded.  Another incentive is those that work straight out of detox have a secured bed through the detox shelter program.

Funding for this project and my many other projects have come directly from my pocket for the past fours years with fundraising support last season. Last year I didn’t do a go fund me but I did a lot of healthy food sales and had help from some very wonderful amazing people. Funding for this project is very tight, it could not have been possible without all our supporters. I would like to personal say THANK YOU once again. This year I am reaching out for your help.  The "Chizh for Cheii" work is already underway. The need for this is so important, proverty is real on the Navajo reservation. Being able to keep our elders warm during winter is worth everything put into. I would like to continue this service for our people.  Because our need is high in demand, we do going through a lot of wear and tear on our transportation, tools and gear. Many of our individuals that come to help don’t own the basic gear for our work load. We would like to purchase safety equipment like gloves, safety glasses, raincoats and light jackets for our helpers.  Now that we have relatives in addictions helping us, we do need emergency clothing to help them get back on their feet. Funding for gas for the trips up the mountains, permits and for trips to drop of loads of wood. The average distances of delieveries has been within 100 miles. Funding for food and water to feed those who come to help. This season has already begun but i would like your help to let us finish strong. Our target has always been 80 loads for 80 homes. Last season we did an outstanding job of servicing 165 loads of wood for 165 elders. Which I owe recognition to the help of my sobriety warriors who not only knocked that season out of the water but chose to get sober and stay sober with over 100 days of sobriety. I had a huge group, it was amazing to work with so many powerful people. Working with youth and adults, my focus has always been about creating a better world. Creating events, activities, groups and actions that are positive and empowering. With your donation, you can help make an impact. These donations DIRECTLY impact our communities and people. In the long run, I hope these teachings inspire our youth to carry on our old ways of giving back and to always help those in need. Thank you for reading this and for having an interest in our campaign. Thank you for your support, your prayers and positive thoughts. Please share if this inspires you.
