PROJECT SUMMARY

The purpose of the project is to increase access to health care services within the community with special attention to women and children. Women and children are the most vulnerable population in the community. Chipamba is 13 kilometres (8 miles) from the Machinga District Hospital and 18 kilometres (11 miles) from Gawanani Health Center. When a woman wants to go to the clinic they have to use a bicycle, walk the long distance, or just stay at home in some cases and do a home delivery. The area is along the Shire River which makes traveling difficult during the rainy season because the area becomes muddy and sticky.  Because of this, we have experienced many deaths. Most of the women in the communities do not have the resources to travel such a long distance.

Approximately 5,368 women will be able to benefit from the project through antenatal services, vaccination, immunization and family planning services.  This project will also benefit approximately 4,000 children through an under five clinic.  Children being fully vaccinated at the scheduled time will reduce the cases of preventable diseases and this will provide an opportunity for a healthier community. Most of the people in the community are peasant farmers and they only have meaningful disposable incomes once a year after the harvest.  This project will provide health care services within their communities.

PROJECT GOAL

- Reduction in the number of children not fully immunized at the specified period.
- Increase the number of women who have attended antenatal clinic during their first, second and third trimester.
- Provide preventive health services and act as a village clinic on a daily basis to the general population, while the specialized services will be conducted once a week for children under five and pregnant women.
- The number of women accessing services at the site will be for the benefit of their families and also the project will help improve health seeking behavior for the women and their children.
- The village and the under-five clinics will be managed by the Health Surveillance Assistance for the villages around the health post and the specialized antenatal clinic will be conducted by the DHO Maternal and Child Health Outreach Team.

The table above shows how our budget is pertaining to finishing of the Chinduzi Health Post Project. We are looking for funds amounting to MWK 745,000 in order to fully complete everything and open the facility to the public before an official handover to the government.

Note:
MWK 730 = $1
MWK 745,000 = $1,021

MWK = Malawi Kwacha

Therefore, the total amount of money required is $1,021.
