The Chilliwack BC Alano Club society started in the 1950's and has been in it's current building since 1982 The 60 year old building was gifted to the society. The Alano is a clean, sober and safe haven and a meeting place that hosts everything from wedding receptions and sober dances to 12 step groups, kids events, celebrations of life , a secure place for families dealing with weekend custody of children and general business meetings.
The caveat is - no alcohol or drugs.
The Alano like other clubs is facing funding shortfalls.
The Alano Club is in dire need of upgrades that the Society simply can not afford to do anymore. The Club does receive a number of small gaming grants and other small stipends, but in today's dollars, they can not pay for everything that is needed. This is from improvements to the washrooms, to the roof, upkeep to make the building accessible to all and family friendly.
While there are memberships ($7 a month or $60 a year) not everyone has that type of disposable income. This is why we turn to you on GoFundMe.
A larger scale plea to those who support what we do. The Chilliwack Alano Club has a Facebook page for more info. The Alano does NOT qualify for a Revenue Canada Tax Receipt number, as we have a canteen that charges for meals. We are not zoned to be a homeless shelter, soup kitchen or treatment facility.
We have a great working relationship with the community and the last thing we want to see, is to close our doors. Too many people rely on us.
The irony is that we have been in the community for generations and still, many people don't know that we are a safe haven, free from drugs and booze. They just don't know what we do.
From $5 to $500 donations or anything in between, your donation will help carry on a tradition that is needed in the City of Chilliwack BC.
