I am due to run the 26 miles of the Berlin marathon (next week!!) and raising a few euro for Children's Liver Disease Ireland (CLDI) would make it feel all the more worthwhile as I drag myself around the course this Sunday. http://cldi.ie/who-are-cldi/
CLDI is a charity run by parents of children with liver disease in Ireland. The main objective of the organisation is to promote understanding, friendship and support among families affected by childhood liver disease. Other supports that CLDI provides are to promote both clinical and non-clinical aspects of care for children with liver disease and to have the power to provide, if finances permit, financial assistance to families whose lives have been significantly impacted by childhood liver disease and grants to the GI team in Crumlin Hospital for work and research associated with the care of children with liver disease.
Ireland does not have the capacity to carry out paediatric liver transplants which creates the need for children (including small babies) and their families to travel to the UK for treatment. Uprooting a sick baby or child, the logistics and cost of travel and accommodation in London adds another layer of difficulty for families at a time when they are already trying to cope with an extremely stressful set of circumstances. CLDI is an organisation that was set up by parents, and is doing fantastic work to provide much needed support to families affected by childhood liver disease.
Any donation, no matter how small, is hugely appreciated -it all makes a difference!
