The Children's Sunshine Foundation was founded in January 2018 with a mission to provide a home away from home for families with sick children to rest, recover and renew - together. Our mission was inspired by the Cadreau Family who’s little girl Lexi had leukemia – twice! This Cape Coral FL family found that their daughter Lexi needed bone marrow treatment in St Petersburg FL. She was required to be within 20 minutes of the hospital for 100 days. Cape Coral is over 120 miles away so the family had to temporarily move to St Pete. Thankfully Lexi is an amazing young woman and kicked leukemia’s butt – AGAIN! Read her full story here
To ease the burden on the family we chose our first residence in the neighborhood of Historic Roser Park, St. Petersburg, FL. A local Children's Hospital is within walking distance. This give families the opportunity to stay together with their child without incurring additional hotel and travel costs.
Our first home, affectionally called, "The Charlotte House" was built in the 1920s and sat vacant for almost a decade in need of a lot of TLC. Our crews knew this home was for the Cadreau’s and other families with sick children so not only did they do an amazing rehab, they poured so much love into this home to help families heal. You can see the transformation of this home by clicking this link . Now that the first family has returned home we are ready to host a new family.
The GoFundMe target would host families for a full year offsetting the costs associated with rent, maintenance, utilities, cable as well as Foundation operating expenses. We would also like to add additional properties to host more families. Members of the Foundation board are strictly volunteers and are not compensated for any activity or time.
