Children's Nursing in Cambodia

Hi, My name is Chanelle and I'm currently in my 3r year of BSc Children's Nursing with London Southbank University.   My working career from the age of 16 has always consisted of working with children and young people in formal and informal settings within London. In 2014 after a 10 year span of working in education, I decided it was time for a change and applied for a job in healthcare as a HCA in one of the London hospitals. In Nov 2014 I began my journey and found my calling where during my time, I was very lucky to be seconded to do my nurses training. However I would be even luckier to undertake this opportunity before I start my career as a registered children's nurse. At the end of this year all nursing students have to complete an elective placement as part of the course for 4 weeks. This is arranged by ourselves and can be any clinical, social, educational or healthcare setting within the Uk or abroad. For my elective in June 2019 I have chosen to go and experience a low-resourced healthcare environment in Cambodia. This will enable me to gain additional experience within children's nursing and take me out my comfort zone.   I have chosen to do this elective with a company called Work the Work who: • They craft healthcare electives around the world tailored to individual interests, with a decade of experience sending thousands of students abroad. • They take their social responsibility seriously and understand that they have an ethical obligation to maximise the benefits of their placements to ensure there is no negative impact locally. • They also employ local people to run their programmes instead of expats, they purchase products and food from within the communities. • The private accommodations are rented from local landlords and public transport is used where it is convenient and safe to do so. • Work the World is not a charity but do support their partners in developing countries. This will cover the cost of the trip with Work the World (this includes a tailored placement, private, catered accommodation and 24/7 overseas support), flights, vaccinations, travel insurance, visas and any equipment needed. This would be an amazing once in a life time experience for me to achieve and I would very much appreciate your help in getting me to Cambodia...
