Children's Book Donations to Local Schools

"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men."- Frederick Douglass

With so much going on in our country, I wanted to find a way to be a part of the change that is so needed right now. After continuously seeing so many disheartening posts from grown adults on social media the past few weeks, I felt the best way to do this was to focus on our next generation. Being a stay at home mom, especially during quarantine, has not been easy. But what it has done is inspired me to really focus on our little ones because they learn so quickly, and they learn by example. One way to do this is to make sure our children are educated on diversity, racism, acceptance, equality and different cultures.

I was fortunate enough to go to schools that were very diverse. But not all children are in schools that allow them to connect with children of all backgrounds. On top of that, not all children have parents that are willing to teach them important lessons about racism, equality and accepting people who may look different from themselves. So I feel that it's important to make sure our schools have books for children of all ages that will help teach these lessons to all students.

I reached out to several local schools to see if they would accept donations of books for their classrooms and libraries. Many principals responded that they would absolutely love a donation of books. My goal is to purchase a bunch of books for these schools to help diversify their collections.

At the same time I reached out to a book store in Newark, NJ called Source of Knowledge. They are the only black bookstore in Newark and have been hit hard financially by the closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I'm so excited that I connected with this store because they have been kind enough to help me put together a selection of children's books that will help teach our kids about black culture, diversity, racism, acceptance and equality.

The purpose of this campaign is to raise funds for these books to be purchased from Source of Knowledge. So while our local schools will be adding some amazing books to their classrooms, this wonderful book store will also be getting support through these purchases.

I'd sincerely appreciate any donations towards this great cause. I look forward to delivering some very special books this Fall and making sure Source of Knowledge feels the love as well! Thank you so much!
