I am Holly Armstrong. I have a BAE in Special Education, MEd in Gifted Curriculum & Instruction, and am a doctoral student. It is my personal mission to help as many people as possible reach their highest potential.

I started this charitable organization because I discovered the existence of Irlen Syndrome (not in school). Those with Irlen Syndrome may not be able to read and almost always have great struggles in school. When I found out 15% of the general population has it, I realized there are (literally) millions of children with Irlen Syndrome whose families would not know of, nor even be able to afford to pay for private screening and remediation.

Irlen Syndrome is a perceptual processing disorder (because of the brain's interpretation of printed information, not the eyes'). Kids who have Irlen Syndrome may be highly sensitive to light or may see letters float off the page, move, disappear, or even spin. Imagine trying to read if the letters did not stay in perfect order, as we expect them to when we teach our children. People with Irlen Syndrome may become exhausted when reading, get headaches, have eye discomfort, or in the case of spinning letters, they may even feel nauseated when trying to read. Again, imagine going to school for 13 years and having to look at these distortions daily just to graduate. There is a hereditary component, but the onset can come from brain trauma and other diseases. It can also be misidentified as different disabilities and disorders.
