Guatemala Child Nutrition Program

Donation protected
Over the course of the last 5 years Felix and I have been working to provide food and water to an Eastern Guatemalan village called El Triunfo, in the Municipality of Gualan, Province of Zacapa.  We have been working through a non-profit 501 C-3 called The Guatemalan Project (www. guatemalanproject.org).  This organization works to provide opportunities to improve the social and economic situation of the poorest people in Guatemala.  The Guatemalan Project has been working for the past twelve years in the Eastern region of Guatemala.  In spite of the fact that UNESCO reports rank this region as the second highest rate of malnutrition in Latin America, it continues to be overlooked by the large international non-profit agencies.  As many as 50% of the children living in low income homes in this area suffer from chronic or acute malnutrition and as a result are unable to successfully participate in school.

Knowing that education is the surest path out of poverty, Felix and I are working with the Guatemalan Project and the Health Department of the Municipality of Gualan in support of their “One Thousand Day Nutrition Program”.  This program attempts to prevent the birth of malnourished babies and it prepares children ages 0 to 5 for successful participation in schooling.

As part of this program the Health Department will provide all mothers-to-be with folic acid and vitamins during the pregnancy period.  We, in conjunction with Guatemalan Project, will provide the mothers-to-be with an egg a day to complement their health efforts.  This provision will continue with the mother until the baby is six month old, at which time, the egg will be given to the child and will continue to be given to the child until the age of five.

The cost of this program is $70 per child per year.  There are two villages that we work with that desperately need our help.   The first village is El Triunfo, which has 100 children that need to be a part of this program, and the second village is Los Limones, which has 450 children that are in need of our help.  Felix and I have committed to supporting this program and our initial goal is to fund the 100 children of El Triunfo. Ultimately our hope is that with your help we will be able to provide an egg a day for all 550 children.

Such a small act of kindness can make such a big impact on the lives of these children.

We know that there are many charitable organizations looking for support.  The unique aspect of this program is that 100% of your donated funds will go to providing these children with an egg a day.   Additionally, all funds are 100% tax deductible and will go directly to the 501 C3 nonprofit called The Guatemalan Project.

If you would like to help or have any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.  If you would like to make a donation you can do so through the guatemalanproject.org website.
