I was falsely accused of domestic violence.


Due to an overloaded court system, the possibility that these claims were false was never investigated and I was convicted of DV with no material evidence. I was ordered separated from my daughter and my spouse was awarded custody. Courts instated $6500 of child support and demanded $3k/mo for supervised child visitations. The brand new car which I had paid the entire down payment on was also awarded to my accuser(she claimed I harassed by buying a car for the family). During this process I was also made homeless for 60 days. I could not afford to hire a lawyer so family put one on a credit card, not knowing how expensive this would become. This eventually amounted to over $30k of legal costs and $8k in awarded damages. I am now heading to divorce court, and am very worried about the legal costs and coming in with a DV conviction, currently no child custody and limited visitations which I cannot afford. This fund raiser will help me pay back family for DV legal costs, pay damages, pay child support, visit with my daughter and prepare for divorce court. This ruling was painfully unequal and I do not know what avenues for appeal I have remaining. But it is clear to me my spouse can not be a trust worthy co-parent. I need your help to find a way to get the courts to review my case. This has been a unilateral and unbelievable situation, I simply have been dumb founded by how King County Family courts operated throughout this terrible experience. The only acts of physical violence alleged were all initiated by my accuser, she self harmed, attacked me in my sleep and slammed my daughters hands in a door to settle arguments. While telling me to my face no one would believe me when I complained.


 


She was right. The courts refused to believe that a gainfully employed white woman would be capable of harming her spouse. The only claim my spouse made involving I and my daughter is that when I first saw a news report of George Floyd's death, it showed him dying and it startled me. and I closed my laptop to shield my daughter. My daughter threw a tantrum due to me taking my laptop away. My spouse claims to this day that my laptop struck my daughter, it did not. Despite this claim clearly being about an accident brush with no injuries to anyone, the courts took away my rights as a father and kicked me out of my home with 12hr notice under threat of arrest... to protect my daughter. The courts refused to allow me to access three avenues(esp. guardian ad litem) that would have delivered an actual DV investigation at reasonable costs. Instead the courts told me they were too backed up and a quality investigation would be outside of my price range. This wasn't even an attempt at justice. Prior to this false DV claim I was a stay at home father. In my spare time I attempted to break into software startups. I miss dearly being a father to my ingenious daughter, I have not seen her in 4 months. With your help I can get back to creating and exploring the world with my daughter. -Alan
