Help little Chico

Hi, my name is Jandy. This morning at 7:15 AM when I was walking my dog Piper, I witnessed someone run over a dog and drove off.
I've never heard such a horrendous cry from a dog. He was yelping so loudly as I ran towards him, the poor thing was covered in blood, I panicked and burst into tears cause I was so heartbroken seeing him in such bad shape.
At one stage when I was driving him to the vet. He crawled and sat on my lap, he leaned his head on my chest and looked at me with those sad puppy eyes. I could only imagine and interpreted it as "He was asking me to help him and make the pain go away, he was so scared and hurt." The humans have failed him.
I just feel so sick in my stomach and still in shock that some people can be so cruel and heartless. I am such a softie when it comes to animals and being a dog owner myself, this hurts me.
I took him to Bass Hill Vet this morning and had to leave to go to work. I called to check on him at lunch and have been advised his legs are broken and he will need surgery.
The Vet scanned his chip and found his name to be Chico. They called the number registered as his owner but sadly the person on the other line declined ownership and doesn't want anything to do with him. I don’t know what was said word for word but the Vet said the owner pretended like she doesn’t know the dog
Today is probably the worst day for Chico, this poor puppy! He got run over and abandoned by his owner, all in one day!
This was one of the saddest things I've ever witnessed! I am so angry that the driver just drove off and left the poor puppy behind...I am angrier that he has been abandoned by his own family. Because he is microchipped so he will be kept at the vet for 14 days. This gives the owner a chance to come forward in case they change their minds and want to bring him home. If he is not claimed within this period, he is then made available for adoption with the local council.
He is currently with the team at Bass Hill Vet and I am so amazed at how kind the nurses are! They have not asked me for any money or made me feel obligated that I have to pay for his vet bills. However, I’ve decided to set up a GoFundMe page and all donations will go towards the team at Bass Hill Vet to help them with Michael’s Vet bills. Every dollar counts so please share!
