Chicks With Nuts; Climbing Instruction For Women*

Chicks With Nuts (CWN) hosts instructional Trad climbing events for those who identify as women. While our goal as an organization has never been to get rich (wrong industry for such a thing!), the financial consequences of closing up shop due to COVID-19 are real, they're daunting, and they're impossible to ignore.
CWN is a small business that has been hosting events since 2011 on both the East and West coasts. Our mission as an organization is to empower women through rock climbing, and our goal is to flood the Trad climbing world with competent, confident, women -- and the system is working! Not only have we run into many participants out climbing on their own in the mountains, but some of our participants have even gone on to become professional climbing guides themselves (with both AMGA and PCGI certifications)!
Which brings us to why we created this fund. As an organization, we work hard to create opportunities for women working in the industry. CWN opens its events up to aspiring female guides interested in shadowing our professional guides, encouraging them to participate and giving them the opportunity to gain experience guiding outdoors. We encourage our professional guides to invest in themselves as climbers, because we believe this will ultimately make them better guides. While working, we try to put them in positions that will help further their growth as professionals.
Our team of female guides consists of independent contractors and seasonal employees whose income has been put on hold due to this pandemic. Donating to this fund will allow us to pay our guides for events we have had to cancel due to COVID. This fund will also help us pay for other business expenses including local guiding permits and insurance so that we can host events again as soon as this pandemic is over. Despite having to cancel events, we initially thought that our guide team wouldn't be too heavily impacted, but we are now seeing that this was wishful thinking as many of our guides will not be able to pick up work in their local areas.
Please consider donating to this fund so that we can continue to support female entrepreneurs and professional female guides in the climbing industry. We know that anything is possible when women come together to support one another, and this is an extremely important time for us to come together.
As we mentioned, we are a small organization, so it won't take much to keep us afloat. If we reach our goal of $5,000, we pledge to start giving donations away to other women in the industry who maybe did not have the means to raise money on their own. This includes organizations hosting events for women in other states throughout the country, as well as small business dedicated to making women's apparel for climbing (we don't want to name names so as to be considerate of these organizations).
CWN has always been a passion project. We are a small business with a lot of heart. Our intentions are to help our guides cover their everyday expenses, and then to help give back to others in the community. If we raise at least $500, we hope to be considered to receive aid from GoFundMe's #SmallBusinessRelief initiative.
