Chick’s Community Fridge
According to Feeding America, with millions of Americans, the non-profit estimates that more than 50 million people may experience food insecurity in 2020, including 17 million children. Food insecurity, defined as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active healthy life, has grown by nearly 50% since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Feeding America’s Kate Leone says food banks across the country are seeing this crisis affect people who have never needed assistance before.
Over the past few days, I raised $250 to start donating to local Philadelphia community refrigerators. With daily trips, I have seen the immense need in our community for access to food. There are only 10-15 active community refrigerators in Philadelphia, even though Philly has one of the highest poverty rates in the country.
This GoFundMe will allow us to start placing more community refrigerators to our neighbors in Philly, starting in Kensington and Fishtown. Please donate if you can!
