Chester Copperpot’s Key to One Lung Living

Donation protected
Chester Copperpot is our 6yo furbaby that has been with us ever since he was found at a scrap yard when he was about 4 weeks old. In that time, he has been healthy, happy, and thriving. Just after the new year, we noticed a small bump on his side. Our vet ran some tests and referred us to a specialist. They immediately knew it was some sort of sarcoma and surgery was needed as soon as possible. The plan was to remove the tumor, the surrounding tissue, and possibly a rib. He would most likely need chemo as well. We left that day with a surgery scheduled for the next week and a massive bill estimate we had to figure out how to pay. Flash forward to surgery day. We get a call from the surgeon and she explains the tumor is the size of a small cantaloupe and they will have to remove 3 ribs, his entire left lung, and part of his pericardium.  She tells us he will survive but recovery will be a longer road. He is rocking his one lung recovery so far and is trying to get used to the 2hr road trips to Auburn University for Chemo every 3 weeks. One lung life is definitely different. He is still active but tires quicker, and his bark has a hollow sound to it, but we are so thankful to still have our sweet boy.  We are still paying on the surgery and have weekly blood draws in between Chemo weeks.  Before Chemo, they also run more labs and do an X-ray. So, as you can imagine, the cost keeps adding up. I never saw myself doing a GoFundMe, but we are willing to do whatever we can to keep Chester cancer free.
