Cheryl's Service Dog

My name is Haley and that’s me and mom in the photo. I have started this GoFundMe in hopes of helping her. Throughout my life, I have watched my mom weaken immensely as she has struggled through several autoimmune diseases. Although she suffers from both Crohn's Disease and Grave's disease, they are currently dormant. However, she does writhe in pain everyday fighting against Rheumatoid Arthritis. For anyone who doesn’t know, Rheumatoid is a chronic progressive disease where a bodys’ immune system attacks its’ own joints and causes widespread immobility.  With more than 30 surgeries and many hospitalizations in her lifetime, my mother is running out of options to maintain sustainability in her life.

As much as we have been able to, my grandma, my siblings and I help my mom in everyday life and especially through more serious procedures. However, she has come to point where she needs daily assistance, more assistance than her family can provide. She has lost the ability to complete simple everyday tasks and for this reason our family has decided that a service dog is our best option for continual, daily support.

Considering the costs of training, care, licensing fees, and equipment our goal for this fundraiser is $15,000. The process of training a puppy can take close to a year and my mom’s disease progresses very quickly. By the time the puppy is done being trained, the service dog will not be a want, it will be a necessity to enhance my mom’s mobility. Therefore, it is important that we start this process right now so that the dog will be fully trained as soon as possible.

The dog will be trained to pick up and carry items, help my mother stand up, walk, and climb stairs, open and close low cabinets, and accompany my mother to her various doctors’ appointments. However, these are just a few of the vital tasks that the dog will learn.

Anyone who has ever met my mother, knows that she is an unbelievably caring and loving mother. She always puts her kids first and everything that she does in her life is in our best interest. Even more so, she has dedicated her life to countless other organizations, working with school districts, the juvenile justice system, and even homeless travelers. After spending her life selflessly devoted to her loved ones and her community, it’s time for all of us to focus our attention on supporting her and her deteriorating health. Without a service dog, she won’t be able to live unsupported for much longer. Our family has never had much money and any financial support from you all will be immensely appreciated. If you can’t donate, please spread this message far and wide.

Thank you guys for everything!!
