Cheryl Cuzco Disaster Relief Plan

Many many people and family members afar have written to ask when they can come to help. Unfortunately due to underground gas leaks in the area and might add not addressed publicly it is not the time for the clean up.
Let me say that what I loved so much about my adopted beloved area was the polarity of the wealthy and the poor. Living side by side. Mansions and trailers. Retirees living the dream in an rv on social security fixed income.
Many of those trailers have been destroyed. It wasn't a second home. Many if you can imagine did not have the financial resources to go and stay in a motel in a safe area. They rode it out because they had too.
Because I have a restaurant in the area and much of my labor pool came from that demographic of poverty ....lots of them are homeless now and only offered FEMA shelter. That's good for a day or two but what about the long run?
Thing about south Texas is some have never been three counties further than where born and family are all in the disaster zone.
I will start today to compile a list of those families. They don't need clothes or canned goods they need money. They need a motel paid for a month. If on public assistance I can assure you it did not get direct deposited. No mail box left for them
Get with your friends your church group and adopt one or two homeless families. Help them directly. Giving to a large relief organization is fine and dandy but
Much of that does not trickle down to direct aide for the short term.
That is what you can do today.
