Cheri and Logan

My oldest sister Cheri is about to lose her 8 year old son, Logan, to cancer. I asked if there was anything at all I could do to help, and this is what the family suggested, so here it is:

Logan had a heart heart transplant at 6 mo.  His little body fought hard to accept the new heart and tolerate all the medications and procedures that went along with it. He has always been a sick kid, in and out of the hospital all his life.

Just when it started to look like he might be doing OK, for a while, more bad news came in.

He has been fighting colorectal cancer for over 2 years. Had his colon and rectum removed, then Chemo off and on for steady year and half. The cancer keeps outsmarting the chemos.   He is  only 8 years old.  Now, tests show worsening of widespread metastic disease with estimated 70% diffuse liver involvement.  It is in his pancreas, bones, brain and lungs.    Logan also has a large mass of cancer tumor in his pelvis and on his lower spine L4 area.  His legs are swollen  so he has a hard time walking or sitting.  His mother still couldn’t give up, and they tried a “Hail Mary” play. That last ditch effort of 3 strong chemos together and steroid didn’t work. He has always been a fighter, a survivor and the bravest kid I know. We were all hoping that he might be able to pull one more trick out of his sleeve, but the cancer is rooted too deep in him.

They left the hospital for, probably, the last time. They made all the arrangements for Hospice and Morphine. Along with home nurse and doctor visits.

My sister Cheri is a single mom, and is his caretaker. She has managed to hold a partime job through all of this, but will have to take leave of it to stay with him and give him his meds and care and feeding.

This is not a Go Fund Me for medical bills and expenses. He will be home for the remainder of his time. I’m just trying to help her keep the rent paid and the lights on until the end, so that she can focus on comforting Logan in his last days.
