My name is Archith Seshadri and I'm from Chennai, India. I work as a journalist at CNN International in Atlanta, Ga. I was born in Adyar (a suburb of Madras/Chennai) and have several relatives throughout the city. We typically visit Adyar and Nungambakkam and make a stop at T-Nagar during our routine trips to India. My parents also grew up there and are horrified at what now looks like a water park.
While most of us can only watch the devastation unfold and hear stories from close ones back home, the road to recovery will certainly take a long time. I'll be visiting Chennai next month and will donate 100% of the proceeds to the rebuilding and relief efforts. It is heartbreaking to watch the images -- so many people have their homes flooded, many have not had power or access to food/water for days. So far, at least 272 people have died.
You can help in THREE ways:
- make a monetary donation to this fundraising campaign (even a small donation of $1 will help)
- you can share this site and fundraising effort with your friends, colleagues and share on social media to raise funds and ask if your company offers 'matching' $$
- drop of clothes/supplies to local non profits like SEWA, Chinmaya Mission, AID etc...
As far as the donations, we are vetting out charities and going to see which group(s) to help donate to when we reach Chennai. My uncle is very active with a lot of volunteer circles there. We may also donate to a few organizations and orphanages but this way 100% of the money goes to it directly than overhead costs.
Thank you for support!
