Chemotherapy and Recovery for Kevin

In June 2017, Kevin went to a walk-in clinic complaining of pain and swelling in his groin area. A physician’s assistant assured Kevin not to worry. “It’s probably just an infection. Take these antibiotics and if the swelling doesn’t go down within 4-5 days, make an appointment with a urologist to get an ultrasound.” To his surprise the swelling did not go down. It was time to see a specialist.
On June 26, Dr. Nazir Hamoui took one look at Kevin and immediately told him everything that he was terrified of hearing. “You have testicular cancer. You need to have a surgery to get it removed. You will not be able to have your own children.”
Those three sentences changed Kevin’s life. As soon as he heard that “C” word his mind went blank and his heart stopped.
On June 29th, Kevin went to Bayfront Health Brooksville to have his orchiectomy performed. 3 painfully long hours and two biopsies later. Dr. Hamoui confirmed there were 2 cancerous tumors that were removed.
Dr. Hamoui referred Kevin to see Dr. Ayman Barakat at Florida Cancer Specialists.
Dr. Barakat ordered some more blood tests, a pulmonary test and two CT scans. Unfortunately Kevin learned that his lymph nodes were enlarged, his spleen was enlarged and 2 small nodules appeared. One on each lung. The cancer had spread.
Dr. Barakat ordered that Kevin has 3 cycles of BEP chemotherapy. 21 treatments over 9 weeks. On July 20th he had a second surgery to install a port in his chest to administer the chemotherapy. Dr Barakat warned Kevin that this would be a very aggressive treatment. Working would not be an option.
We don’t know how long Kevin will be out of work and with the medical bills piling up, money is getting tight. He has already paid over $3000 for his procedures and medication, leaving his savings account depleted. Any donation would be very much appreciated.
