Chelsea's emergency spinal surgery

Last night Chelsea stretched and yelped and then seemed to be ok, however this morning she was reluctant to walk, then wobbly and shaking.
Shell and Muzz raced her to ARH Animal Referral Hospital at Sinnamon Park Brisbane and she was seen immediately at 8:30 am by specialist neurological surgeon Dr Lance Wilson.
After a CT Scan it was revealed that Chelsea had 75% compression at L3 and L4 mid back, and went straight into emergency surgery.
The Decompression went well but Chelsea has a very bruised spinal cord with lots of hemorrhaging at L3 and L4 that Dr Lance had to remove as well.
Prognosis is guarded and she will have a very long road to recovery and will be in the care of Rosalie James for her rehabilitation.
Chelsea has had the best of surgeons’; it’s now up to our prayers and wishes for a full recovery.
Chelsea is a Devoted 2 Dachshunds Rescue girl, she is owned by our Secretary Shelly Thompson and her husband Murray (Muzz) whom many of our dachshund family know only too well from all the hard work both of them do, never is a task refused whether its driving a dachshund to hospital, picking up a rescue and so on.
The committee of management of D2DR comprises of 8 and between us we own 25 dachshunds; 23 of them are rescues and Shelly and Muzz have 4 of these rescues.
This terrible disease has struck many dachshund members many times and now it has struck again within the committee.
Whilst Shelly and Muzz do have pet insurance it will not cover the full cost of the operation and we are hoping to raise funds from our supportive dachshund community and their friends to help ease the financial burden.
