Cody Stasyk lives each day, each moment, to the absolute fullest. He is extremely ambitious in his daily life. To name a few of his daily feats, he attends university full time, excels as a manager at a major retail company, builds & maintains websites, plays soccer year round, and has a passion for exploring the great outdoors. Cody lived in Mexico for years rescuing stray and injured animals, he is one of the most selfless/altruistic people you will ever know.
Recently, Cody took up mountain climbing, exploring many glaciers and peaks in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains. An inconceivable accident happened in late July while he was scrambling a mountain alone (scrambling means going up into the alpine area of the mountains, but not necessarily roped or harnessed). Unbeknownst to Cody, the conditions on the peaks had been so hot and dry, causing very unstable conditions. He fell from a rock ridge an astonishing 250 metres. Yes, you read that correctly ‘metres’ (that is 820 feet!) It is a miracle that he survived. He was airlifted to hospital once discovered, and will inevitably be there for several months due to the severity of his injuries. He is currently still at the rehabilitation centre here in Calgary.

The extent of his injuries has left him suffering from paraplegia (this means loss of sensory and motor function to the lower extremities.) Although his recovery has taken every ounce of strength he has both mentally and physically, from the very beginning and still now, he continues to blow everyone away with his positivity and courage.
We, his friends/family and co-workers are asking you to please help us show your support by lessening the burden of lost wages, medical expenses and costs for equipment that are not all covered by insurance. The equipment will include a custom wheelchair, a mobility kit for his car, ramps and numerous modifications in the home.
To anyone who has the pleasure of knowing Cody, this news was a crushing shock. His family, friends and co-workers have come together and we are asking anyone and everyone to show their support in this time of recovery and rehabilitation. When someone is down, we come together to help lift them up. The amount of positivity, thoughtfulness and encouragement that has followed is a direct tribute to the kind of person Cody is, and we would like to keep the momentum going.
