Hi everyone! My name is Toni Blackmore. I was a cheerleader at Stearns all through high school. For several years now, we have not had a cheerleading program in Millinocket, and a very small one in East Millinocket. In the last couple of years, cheerleading has been starting to grow again. Coaches Stephanie Jamieson and Amber Wheaton have put a lot of time and effort into shaping these kids into excellent athletes. Most of these kids started with the Medway Recreation, covering the tri-town area, when they were in 2nd grade. This program has had one competition team the last several years. This year, that is changing.

We are happy to announce that this year we have 3 competition teams, ranging from pre-k to 5th grade. They will be called the Tri-Town Supernovas, the Tri-Town Cosmic Rays, and the Tri-Town Starlets. This is so exciting!! But with this, comes a lot of costs. It was a struggle to raise enough money for one team to compete and keep costs down for families, then you add two more, and we are looking at a cost of about $9,500. This would cover new uniforms, competition fees, buses to travel to competitions, music, hair bows, etc. The cost would be around $250 per child and we have 35 kids altogether. It would be too bad to have to cut teams due to cost when we have this much interest.

There is also going to be a Showcase held right here in Millinocket at Stearns High School in January for teams from all over to attend. This will hopefully turn into an annual event. I know I have a lot of friends that I cheered with in high school, and know you all would love to see this program thrive! If you would like to help these kids, please donate! Their goal is $9,500. Any donations above that will stay in the program and be used for other expenses that arise or for future needs.
