Can you recall as young person you took with a church group, sports team, or other group? The anticipation, planning, and organization that need to happen are tremendous and sometimes overwhelming. We're the Baltimore Checkmaters of Mount Washington Elementary and Middle Schools and we need your help!
The Event: 2018 National Junior High (K-9) Championships
Who: Team Checkmaters,Coaches and Parents
Where: Atlanta, Georgia
When: April 6th thru the 8th
Our Expenses:
Our expenses include registration fees, lodging 4 nights at our hotel for the team, travel (2 days of road travel from Baltimore to Atlanta and back) - two vans loaded with eager and enthusiastic kids with stops for food along the way. (No speeding tickets, we promise to drive safely!)
Background and Preparation: The Mount Washington Checkmaters is a group of Elementary and Middle school chess aficionados, who have been meeting weekly in preparation for this celebrated yearly tournament. Through chess, we aim to build on our young team members' focus, problem-solving abilities, and self-confidence. Due to restricted budgets we need to rely more heavily on contributions from good-hearted folks like yourself. Many of our students would not otherwise have this opportunity to travel and compete as a team.
We believe in the power of chess to transform the lives
of these kids. Some of the benefits of chess are:

Our Plea:
We're less than a month away and anything helps: $5, $10 or more! Donate now a gift of $40 or more and you will receive a handwritten thank you note from a Checkmaters player. A gift of $100 by March 23rd or more will include a hand-signed print by local artist Jason Witte, whose daughter is a member on the Checkmaters team. A gift of $150 includes a personal chess lesson if local to the Baltimore area. Please help us in achieving our goal of $4,500.00.
