Help Chayse Parker race at NASTAR

Get Chayse to race at the NASTAR Nationals in Squaw!

Chayse Parker is a 9 year old on the Wachusett Ski Team. He competed in the NASTAR Nationals last year in Steamboat and is planning on racing again this year in Squaw. He is applying his entrepreneurial spirit to raise money for travel by running coats from the top of the course to the bottom of the course during the night leagues. Most often, the bag of coats is bigger than he is. This was recently described by one night league competitor as a "why we do NASTAR" moment.

I caught up with Chayse, the 9 year old speed demon from Westminster, MA, to find out a little more about him and his racing goals. Here's what he had to say:

What three  adjectives best describe you as a racer? Determined, fast, and skilled.

Who would you say is your greatest skiing influence? That's easy. My  Great Auntie Sheila.

You're pretty young still, but tell me about your favorite childhood memory so far: My best memory is when my grandparents adopted me. I lived in foster care before that. I'm lucky, I have the best family. They have shown me how to live life moving forward.

That's a pretty big deal. You have an amazing attitude. We know NASTAR racing is also a pretty big deal. Tell me about some other achievements: I play DEK Hockey. It's challenging but I have a lot of trophies. I'm a  good swimmer and a good hiker. I also snowboard. Mainly, I love to ski race. I am most proud of winning gold and silver medals during Nationals at Steamboat, CO last year and the year before. I've also won two silver medals in the Rhode Island Ski Runner Race.

You're a very accomplished young man! Tell me something that is hard for you:  Well, I'm trying to learn to slow down! (Which is probably why I am very fast at racing.)

What are your future goals? I'm learning as much as I can about competitive ski racing. One day, I want to be an Olympic skier.

Is there any place in particular you would like to visit or race? I would like to visit everywhere I can.

What are you working on in your racing? When I understand how to slow down, I'll be able to race faster with more skill.

What is your most memorable moment in racing so far? The first silver medal I received competing in the NASTAR Nationals at Steamboat, CO.

Do you have any advice for anyone who wants to get into racing? Always keep trying and do not give up!

What values will you bring to your racing team and skiing family? Honesty, fairness, caring, being helpful to others.

What is one of the most important things you've learned from your Great Aunt Shiela?  Giving up is not an option.

Do you have a favorite quote?  "Keep pushing the limits to see what is possible." -Lindsey Vonn
