Chau’s Guatemala Mission Trip
Dear friends and family,
I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to bring you up to date on what is happening in my life. I am excited to announce that this spring break, I will take one last opportunity to travel to Guatemala as a senior at The Highlands.
Through the organization Mission Youth, our school has opened its doors for high school students aged sixteen and up, who wish to participate in responding to the real needs of the people of Guatemala. From March 14th to March 24th we will be staying in Laguna El Pino, near Guatemala City. Guatemala is one of the countries in Latin America that has high rates of extreme poverty.
We will be working hand in hand with local residents to build a Catholic Church in the Department of Santa Rosa, in the town of El Carmen. The community that we will be helping has been fundraising for the past 5 years to start building their new parish. We will also do ministry work in a variety of ways, which includes proclaiming the message of life and hope through skits, testimonies, opportunities in offering the Sacraments, playing music, and visiting the families there. We will also be spending time at a Mano Amiga School, where we will have moments to share and interact with underprivileged children.
Our faith calls us to grow continuously closer to God. I want to take this great opportunity to take part in service as we show God’s people the love they are meant to encounter every day. I praise God for presenting me another chance to experience the importance of giving. Through this mission trip, I hope to grow closer to Jesus Christ as I serve the people of Guatemala in their spiritual and material needs.
However, I cannot do this alone. For this reason, I am sending this letter to ask you to be involved in this international mission by sponsoring part of my trip. I need your support to help me spread the love of Christ—because He has called us all to be apostles. I write to you today to invite you to join me in this mission in two big ways:
1. Support us in prayer.
2. Your financial support. Each missionary is responsible for raising their own funds. The cost of the trip is $1,420 with donations due on a monthly basis from now until February. In order to meet this goal as quickly as possible, one-time gifts of $25, $50, or $100 plus are greatly needed. There are no minimums or maximums and all gifts are greatly appreciated!
If you would like to join, simply donate on my Gofundme page or checks can be directly given to me or my parents. Please make checks payable to my name or one of my parent’s names. Please leave the memo section blank on the check so that your gift will be fully tax-deductible. Thank you for your prayerful consideration!
May the Lord’s blessings be with you and your loved ones.
Sincerely in Christ,
Minh-Chau Hoang
